How can I disassociate an address with a joint account holder?

Last August I authorized my credit to be used in order to open up a medical billing account for an ex-boyfriend.

It was a bad dental emergency and no one else would cosign. He had/has bad credit (and now is piggy backing off mine).

The account has to be paid off before next February or else interest will incrue.

I moved away and changed the address so that I would received the bill (temporarily staying with parents due to medical issues and don%26#039;t trust him with the bill). Now we get at least 1 credit card offer a week in my ex%26#039;s name.

How do I stop this? I mean its not good for credit card offers to be circulating around where you have no control over destroying them. If I had him change his address, then the bill would probably be forwarded as well. I don%26#039;t want that. I guess I am just going to have to pay off the account and close it.

How can I disassociate an address with a joint account holder?finance

One has nothing to do with another. I understand why you changed the address so the bill would show up to your parents%26#039; house, but unless your dentist%26#039;s office is selling your name to marketers (which would make me reconsider that choice of dentist!), they are getting his name with your address some other way--is it possible he%26#039;s using that address in some bcse he knows you%26#039;re living there and wants to continue to piggyback on yr credit?

In any event, I don%26#039;t think any credit card he signs up for now will impact YOUR credit unless you also co-sign that application (or you have any concern that he might fill it out %26quot;on your behalf%26quot;).

To be careful, I%26#039;d call the big three credit authorization companies (equifax, experian and one other..can%26#039;t remember the name right now) and ask them to put a freeze on authorizations with your account. That requires them to contact you whenever anyone checks your history in order to grant credit. Then you%26#039;ll know if he%26#039;s doing this to you.

Also, as a general matter, it%26#039;s good to ask the same big three to let you %26quot;opt out%26quot; of receiving marketing materials--that means they can no longer sell your info to marketers looking for people with good credit.

Hope that helps. Good luck!

Does borrowing a line of credit hurt my credit score?

I have perfect credit currently and no debt. I also have plenty of money in the bank. My credit card company has an offer to borrow against my credit line for a 1% apr and a startup fee not to exceed $75. The offer just seems too good to be true and I am wondering what the implications will be if I go through with this offer. I am planning on putting the money in a high yield savings account and then paying back prior to the end of the promo 1% apr period.

I%26#039;m looking for some advice.

Don%26#039;t borrow to invest, never a good idea. Use your credit when you actually need it! Shred it like all the other offers.|||I don%26#039;t think it%26#039;s the borrowing that hurts you, it%26#039;s the paying back that hurts if you miss ANYTHING.|||Mostly your credit score is about to things:

Ability to pay

Time to pay.

Be very careful about playing the credit to improve credit score game.

There are usually traps which will have you paying too much too soon. The regs regarding APR and what make it go up are very tricky.

Since I am paying the monthly amount or more and doing what I agreed to in the contract, I can%26#039;t see it doing anything other than help my credit score. Showing that I pay my bills on time and regularly.

What happens if you leave the country although you have an outstanding debt?

My Ex-boyfriend was studying here in the U.S., he had a student Visa.. he started to get credit card offers in the mail and he applied for them. To make story short, at the end of 6 years when he finally finished school, he had accumulated about 25,000 to 30,000 in credit card debt. He paid the minimum payments but never actually paid the debt. He also signed up for different cellphone companies that gave him free cellphones, and he made long distance phonecalls to his country that would come up to 3000 worth but never paid a dime. Bottom line, 7 months have gone by since he left back to his country since his student Visa expired. Will he get away with this? What will happen if he tries to apply for a visitor visa to the U.S. ? He said he had spoken to a lawyer about this and apperantly it wouldn%26#039;t affect anything since it was only credit cards, not actual cash. Is this true?

If he owed one person that much, they have have the incentive to try and locate him...but they rarely go after people out of the country. The legal costs is just too great, and just trying to locate them is a problem. Then, once they locate him, take him to court, win their judgment...then what?

And no, they do not stop people coming back into this country for civil judgments.

He should not worry, there is nothing really that those rip off credit card companies can do. He is free and clear as long as he is outside the United States. Even the US government cannot touch him, because owing money is not a crime.|||depends on how hard the creditors want to be

especially the cell phone companies -- if he never paid anything they can allege that he never intended to, a form of fraud. If they can then get the DA to file a fraud charge, your ex-bf won%26#039;t get a visa to return.

Does anybody else not feel bad about these people that have been foreclosed on lately?

I don%26#039;t. I haven%26#039;t bought anything on credit for over 10 years. Now that I%26#039;m looking to buy a new car I%26#039;ve been trying to find something small to buy on credit so that I will have some credit. Let%26#039;s see: Kohls, Dell, HP, Sears, gas companies, various general credit card offers have been denied to no credit. Not bad credit, just no credit. If the federal government bails all these people out while I can%26#039;t even get a minor loan then I will be peaved! What is your opinion please?

Some took risks, some were greedy, some were stupid, some were ignorant, some were taken advantage of, some were screwed over by their lenders. As a hypothetical senator or congressman, pick and choose who you want to help, considering that if we let the banks take on too much loss, we are all collectively screwed.

Personally, I believe these past 20 years of conservative ideology that demanded deregulation has gotten us into this mess. I believe we need very strict regulation and underwriting standards of all lenders (both banks and non-banks).

For more understanding of why we have to bail out those undeserving banks, go to video.google.com and search for %26quot;Money as Debt.%26quot; It is VERY educational.

No credit is usually worse than bad credit, so you really can%26#039;t compare the situations.

And when it comes down to it, people NEED a place to live. People don%26#039;t need computers and new clothes.|||Car loans for people with bad credit score are mainly given as two options i.e. secured and unsecured. Under a secured loan, the car or any other collateral needs to be pledged as security with the lender. Secured loans often carry a lower rate of interest and are also easily approved due to the collateral%26lt;!--being placed. Unsecured loans for cars generally have a higher rate of interest as there is no collateral and hence the risk to the lender is more. Both these loans are generally provided for a time ranging between 5-7 years. Clearing some of your old debts can improve your credit score, which may in turn fetch you lower interest rates when you are applying for auto loans.

http://best-loans.awardspace.com/auto.ht...

A person may incur a poor credit score due to many reasons such as accumulated arrears, defaults, repayments that have been omitted and so on. With the advent of bad credit auto loans, even those with a not so good--%26gt;credit history are being provided with the opportunity to purchase a vehicle. A down payment is however required while acquiring these funding options. Refinance car loans are also being provided by some lenders even for those with a poor credit score.|||I am so glad to see someone that agrees with me. I choose to live in a smaller home. The payment is only about 10% of my take home pay. I do that so that I can still afford to live without cc debt, or debt of any kind. If people chose to get a loan that they knew might increase their payments in a couple of years then they deserve to lose their house.

The only reason that I might be ok with a government bail out is because this whole thing is hurting our overall economy and therefor hurting my 401K.

But underneath it all, if you can%26#039;t afford the house you live in, you don%26#039;t deserve to live in that house. It is VERY simple I would really like a Mercedes. I could get a loan and be driving one tomorrow. Why don%26#039;t I?? Because, I can%26#039;t afford it. That%26#039;s why. This is a rhetorical question.....If I did go buy the Benz, and I could not afford the payment, should the government bail me out?? NO!

You are the first person that has my same opinion. Thanks for being smart enough to realize what is going on, and brave enough to speak up about it.

Does switching creditcards from the same bank wipe out credit history linked to the credit cart bein

I have switched from a Chase Continental Mastercard to a Chase Freedom Mastercard. The rep told me I would get a new credit card but the accounts would be linked so my credit history won%26#039;t be wiped out as I am closing the old one. Is this true or will my credit history / account be wiped out and I will have to start all over again? The transfer is from one credit card to the other offered by the same bank. I would appreciate your response.

Does switching creditcards from the same bank wipe out credit history linked to the credit cart being closed?exchange rate

No, nothing is wiped out. You actually haven%26#039;t closed the old account, you have just changed the account number and reward terms. (Probably changed the apr as well, I am assuming you did this to get rid of the annual fee, or to have a more user friendly reward program). So everything that was on the old account, automatically moves over to the new account, It is actually the same account as far a your credit history is concerned.

Does switching creditcards from the same bank wipe out credit history linked to the credit cart being closed? loan

Either way your credit history is not %26quot;wiped out.%26quot; It will still remain on your credit and be positive. Your credit score is based on length of credit however. If it wasn%26#039;t the credit card you have had for the longest, you will not be affected except for applying for new credit. Even if it did close the old account and start a new it is not that significant of a credit event and might cost less than 10 points.

That said, I have switched American Express cards from one card to a Blue card and the record was the same.|||That is correct. It will report as a transferred account. I seem them often when underwriting loans.|||No, the old credit card history remains.|||You%26#039;re not alone; it%26#039;s remarkable how many people use credit cards and don%26#039;t really know the rules.

Nothing ever %26#039;wipes out%26#039; your credit history, but the last 24 months are really the most important.

You should keep your old credit card open, even if you never use it again, as closing it will decrease your debt:limit ratio, and decrease your credit score. Here are some tips on how to increase your credit score:

(1) always pay on time;

(2) call all of your credit cards and request a limit increase (to decrease your debt:limit ratio);

(3) never use more than 49% of your credit limit. The credit bureaus count the number of cards with debt over 50% of that cards%26#039; limit.

(4) Most people don%26#039;t know that you can call your credit card companies and ask them for a better APR.

Bank of America is offering illegal immigrants credit cards. They aren't required to have SS#&#

Well it is certainly unethical to cater to known criminals. Maybe Bank of AMERICA forgot what is in their name? They should change their name to Banco de Mexico. Oh they also have a program called Safe Send to Mexico so that the illegals can send all that money home. After all, money sent to Mexico from America is their second largest income. Banco de Mexico wouldn%26#039;t want to miss that action.

They are aiding and abetting illegal aliens in defiance of the immigration and control act of 1986. The Government should shut them down except they aid and abet too.

Bottom line tell everyone you know. Don%26#039;t do business with Banco de Mexico. I%26#039;d say don%26#039;t pay your taxes but you know the Government will enforce that law.

PLEASE HELP........

You are still alright. The credit union is a good starting place, as are new vehicle dealerships, and do both. Car dealers are aggressive lenders and will do everything possible to deliver a vehicle, and then some, so you have them working for you.

What you can expect and will need to counter at the dealership is the fact that your credit score/history is not based on paid accounts and active credit, but older inactive credit. The argument from the lender%26#039;s side is that your credit reflects what you %26quot;did%26quot;, not what you %26quot;are doing” which is more reflective of how a borrower will perform.

Now, words of caution! DO NOT accept the banker%26#039;s opinion and feel like a third class borrower begging for a loan. Bankers are a different breed of lender than is a Credit Union lender or a Finance person at a car dealership. CU lenders are motivated to assist you, Finance people are motivated by assisting you and getting paid when they do, and it is their job to be certain that what is sold is financed and DELIVERED.

The other factors that will be weighed for you are (1) income, (2) current and predictable job stability, (3) savings accounts, and investments. (4) home ownership and equity, (5) gross income, (6) down payment, (7) time in the community, at your current address (not a negative if only a short time if you are a longer term area resident, (8) partner income, (9) and a previously paid vehicle loan, (10) attitude, yes attitude, an air of confidence and positivism, %26quot;I am creditworthy, I can and WILL repay, and I am not interested in your high interest quotes. I expect the best interest rate available, and I will shop till I get it.%26quot;

The reason the above items pertain to a loan is that the lender wants to BELIEVE that you CAN and WILL repay the loan. I assure you that there are buyers that can repay a loan yet are turned down for a car loan because it does not appear they will repay. Why? If they have not and are not paying other lenders why would they repay this loan?

You are in an OK place, perseverance and patience will win with a positive and confident attitude. A lender may ask you directly what%26#039;s going on in your world-be prepared to answer with a positive statement that you were maintaining your good credit so that when you were ready you could buy a vehicle. Positive is a major plus. Again, perseverance and patience will get you there.

besttoyou, Chuck

It was stupid of you to never use a credit card. It IS bad to have a lot, but its smart to have one or two to build up your credit. There%26#039;s nothing you can do now because you haven%26#039;t done anything to show that you can be trusted.

Get a credit card and start paying it off. Stupid.|||Try other lenders, especially credit unions. On my last car purchase, a local credit union came up with a better deal than the bank (with which I have dealt for twenty years).|||Believe it or not, having %26quot;no%26quot; credit is worse than having bad credit when it comes to obtaining more.
