Tear all of them up and throw them away Using cash is best. If you are worried about an emergency, save $500.00 to $1000.00, put it in a savings account. If you find something you want to buy, then save the money for it and resist the urge to impulse buy.

If you are planning to make a large purchase such as mortgage or auto in the near future then it could hurt you somewhat. What a lender looks at is available credit. Even though you do not make a habit of using those cards you could suddenly tomorrow charge all five cards to their limits since you have the credit available.

Also, that is a lot of new credit in a short period of time. Have you been watching the interest rates and yearly fees on those cards?

Offers often come with high interest rates and fees.|||It hurts your credit in the sense that if you were to get a mortgage from a bank, they would (even though you have a zero balance on the cards) give you a lesser loan.

The reason is that you already have $5000 or $10000 potential liability out there with the cards (as you could charge on them).

The fact that you don%26#039;t use them doesn%26#039;t give you a bad credit, it just means that instead of a bank giving you $100,000 mortgage, they might limit it to $90,000.
