How do stores know....?

Ok, this might be a stupid question, but I am getting credit card offers and brochures in the mail for off to college stuff from stores like Target and then one I%26#039;ve never heard of....I am just wondering how retailers, banks, etc (including ones you%26#039;ve never done business with before) can know that you%26#039;ve turned a certain age?

Credit companies and such have many ways of knowing who you are and how old you are. From even filling a simple form on the internet or maybe filling out a card way back for say a rebate. Anything that requires your DOB gets traced. America is very good at finding out what people like, and want and knowing exactly when to deliver it to them.

Do you have a debit card? Nice bank you%26#039;re using. Or, if you%26#039;ve applied or have been accepted to a college. These are just to name a few.
