Supposedly, signing up on the site tells the the major credit agencies to not give your name to others who want to send offers. I want to stop getting preapproved credit card offers and things like that in the mail. Is this site legit or is it phishing to get my personal information?

Any creditors that you are doing business or have done business with in the past, will still sell your information on a mailing list unless you tell them in writing not to do so.
